We are blessed with fantastic weather in the SF Bay Area, but there are times in the summer when it’s hotter than hot. We do not have central air-conditioning in our house and several years ago, we bought a portable air-conditioner at Costco. It was a Sharp brand but it’s very similar to this DeLonghi unit.

They come with a hose and window venting kit which works with sliding windows as well as double hung and casement windows. It is very simple to install.

We have ours in the bedroom and on those summer nights when temperatures remain well in the 70s, it really helps to have it. We install it every April/May and remove it in Oct/Nov. We’ve had ours for 5 years.

This DeLonghi portable air-conditioner can be used for cooling as well as heating, fan and dehumidifying. It is a 12,000 BTU/hr unit.

So, if you do not have central air-conditioning in your house and want some relief on those really hot summer days, consider getting a portable air-conditioner like this DeLonghi unit.

It costs just over $300 while installing central air-conditioning will cost $4000 and up depending on the size of your house. Not to mention the increase in your electric bill due to cooling the entire house versus just one room.

Do you have a portable air-conditioner in your house? What do you like or dislike about it?

For us, we definitely like having it as it’s nice to sleep in a cool room on hot days!
