Kirkland Signature Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Did you read the May issue of The Costco Connection magazine? There was an article about olive oils in it. Due to undesirable weather and olive flies, Italian olive oil yields in 2014 were about 30 to 40% lower than the previous year. As a result, Costco had to source olives from elsewhere.

We spotted the new one from Spain, the Kirkland Signature Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil this week.

The Arbequina olives are harvested from northeast Spain and produces a “golden oil characterized by low acidity and a rich, fruity olive flavor with delicious apple notes”.

The olive oil comes with the Denominacio D’Origen Protegida (DOP) or Protected Denomination of Origin certification which certifies that the olives and the olive oil are grown and processed in a particular region.

While there is no quality difference between Spain and Tuscan olive oils, there is however, a flavor difference.

The article concluded by reassuring Costco members that the well-loved Tuscan olive oil is not gone forever. They will be back when the harvest yields improve.

The Kirkland Signature Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil is priced at $9.89 for 1 L.

Unit price is 29.3 cents/oz.

Item number 652773.
