Disconnect your wireless connection on your laptop. Then connect a LAN cable from your router to your laptop and go to speedtest.net. Check the speed and write it down. Then disconnect the LAN Cable and connect your laptop wirelessly. Check the speed again at speedtest.net.
If there’s a huge difference between the two, then it may be time to consider getting a new router. If the difference in speed is not that great (1-2Mbps), then your old router is working just fine.
