Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2010 & Poet’s Leap Riesling 2011

Happened to see these 2 wines at Costco. I believe I’ve seen the Yalumba Viognier at Costco before but the Poet’s Leap may be a new addition? Both have good reviews according to wine.com.

The 2010 Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier received 90 points from Wine Spectator – “This rich, spicy Viognier delivers apricot, honey and clove flavors that compete for attention. The finish is rich, dry and a bit earthy. Drink now through 2014.”

It also received 90 points from International Wine Cellar – “Pale yellow-gold. White peach and poached pear on the fragrant, spice-accented nose. Pliant and expansive, offering rich pit fruit flavors and notes of candied ginger and white pepper. Lush but focused, even racy, with very good finishing cut and spicy persistence. ”

The 2010 Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier is listed at $12.99 at Costco.

The 2011 Poet’s Leap Columbia Valley Riesling received 93 points from Wine and Spirits magazine – “Sinewy and elegant, with a tangy citrus scent and a hint of peppercorn, this feels finely knit and pure. The flavors lengthen after a day open and bring to bear a juicy, mouthwatering briskness, with a minerality that suggests a long, thrilling life in the cellar.”

It also received 89 points from International Wine Cellar (Nov/Dec 2012) “Pale straw-yellow.  Pungent aromas of peach, orange zest and ginger, plus a hint of petrol.  Brisk and a bit spritzy, with unabsorbed CO2 currently giving the middle palate a slight bitter edge.  But this minerally, spicy riesling finishes long, tactile and dry, with noteworthy vibrancy.  Should be excellent with Thai cuisine.  A tiny percentage of this wine was fermented in a 360-gallon wood oval.”

The 2011 Poet’s Leap Columbia Valley Riesling is being sold at  Costco for $16.89.
