Montes Purple Angel
The 2010 Montes Purple Angel from the Colchagua Valley in Chile by awarded 93 points by Wine Spectator. It is described as Concentrated, Blackberry, Smoky and Full-bodied.
Here’s Wine Spectator’s notes on the wine – “A dark, ambitious red, with ample toast and mocha to the macerated plum skin, dark cherry and grilled fig fruit, pumping out layers of humus, iron and olive paste before the fruit returns for an encore on the finish.”
The wine is a blend of 92% Carmenere and 8% Petit Verdot.
There’s an interesting story behind the red grape variety Carmenere.
It disappeared from the European vineyards around ~1880, only to resurface in Chile about 12 years ago. They call it the “Jurassic Park” grape,as it miraculously survived extinction?!
The Montes Purple Angel is priced at $48.99/bottle.
